Welcome to Pulham Down, a serene backwater with a population of 27½ (Mrs. Blodwyn – she’s expecting another), where time, like the people, stands still.
Meet resident doctor Lethaniel Ostrich, restless, carefree, endlessly searching for means to make his life simpler. After conning Mr. Tibbett, from the Ministry of Health, into assigning an extra doctor, Scott Free, Ostrich’s dream of a sham retirement with Miss Plunger comes true… that is until Tibbett is forced to cut numbers under new NHS guidelines and only one doctor can remain. But who will it be? And what’s the best way to decide who stays and who goes?
